The Insider's Booksigning

Honorees Sue Mossman and Claire Bogaard
During a November 1 party celebrating the publication of Hometown Pasadena: The Insider’s Guide, publisher Prospect Park Books paid tribute to Sue Mossman and Claire Bogaard for their work with Pasadena Heritage. Duty called and both were reportedly at a Planning Commission meeting, however, they rushed back to make an appearance at the festivities.

All profits from book sales during the evening were donated to Pasadena Heritage, whose mission is to identify, preserve and protect the historic, architectural and cultural resources of the city of Pasadena through advocacy, education and oral histories.

Hometown Pasadena: The Insider’s Guide was written by five local women: Sandy Gillis, Mel Malmberg, Colleen Dunn Bates, Mary Jane Horton and Jill Alison Ganon. This is a guide book for what the writers call “the Pasadena area.” From Sierra Madre to San Gabriel and La Cańada Flintridge to Eagle Rock, this book covers sixteen towns and cities the authors consider to be a part of the Pasadena hub.

Touted as a “guidebook like no other” on the “Real Pasadena,” Hometown Pasadena offers the reader glimpses into the San Gabriel Valley area that the outsider wouldn’t otherwise discover, and might surprise even the insider (some Pasadenans will be intrigued to know that there is an area called Hermon; a small “town” bordered by Highland Park to the north and west El Sereno to the south and Monterey Hills to the east). From shopping, eating and accommodations, the book has the who, what, were, why and when. There are also guides to architectural walks and picturesque hikes. Interspersed with the commercial is the social, with listings of nonprofits in the area complete with mission statements and contact information.

The 256 page book is printed on glossy paper and has full color printing throughout. Complete with maps of the city, the region, walking tours, Gold Line and ARTs buses. Hometown Pasadena is on sale now at retailers in the area for $22.95. For more information log onto www.prospectparkbooks.com or call (626) 793-9796.
