The late Alice Frost Kennedy will be remembered with an artisan ceramic sign in her honor which now graces the off-leash dog area of Viņa Vieja. The unveiling was held on Saturday, February 3.
Pasadenans Organizing Off-Leash Canine Habitats (POOCH) President Vince Destefano presided over the brief tribute ceremony, which included remarks from Pasadena City Councilmember Steve Haderlein.
The park is located within Haderlein's district, and POOCH President Destefano credits Haderlein with playing a major role in the park's creation. Unveiled was a mosaic sign which includes portraits of two dogs. Designed and crafted by local artisan Mary Clark-Camargo, it is a tribute to the life of Kennedy, a former Recreation and Parks Commissioner, founder of Pasadena Beautiful Foundation and beloved community leader. The 7.5-acre park has approximately two acres designated for off-leash dogs to play and has become one of the most-used park spaces in the city. The City of Pasadena, POOCH, and a generous donation from the family of Alice Kennedy have supported the park.
