Request for Artists' Qualifications

Published on Thursday, December 6

The City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division and the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission announces a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for Pasadena-based, 2-D visual artists. Artists are invited to submit their qualifications to be considered for multiple upcoming and possible future public exhibition opportunities.

This RFQ is part of the City of Pasadena’s efforts to meet the community’s cultural needs and to fulfill the goals of Nexus: providing equity and access to the arts, providing exhibition opportunities for Pasadena-based artists, and allowing community members – both audiences and artists alike – to experience the arts in unexpected places; giving all a new perspective on the boundless possibilities of who and what art can be and where it can happen.

Exhibition opportunities include: Pasadena Convention Center meeting rooms; public lobbies; and municipal buildings.

All work must be two-dimensional, but all media will be considered: painting, drawing, collage, mixed media, photography, etc.

The competition is open to artists ages 21 and older, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, physical disability or mental disability. Artists must reside or work in Pasadena.

Artists who wish to be considered for this exhibition must submit the following: a one- to two-page resume in no smaller than 12-pt. type, including name, address, phone, and email; a brief artist’s statement; an image list to include title, size after framing, medium, and completion date; and images of up to 10 works of art to be considered for exhibition – CDs, slides, or photographs will be considered for review.

A panel of local arts professionals will review all submissions and contact those artists selected for exhibition opportunities as they arise. Evaluation includes quality, creativity, and strength of previous work.

The deadline for receipt of submissions is 5:00 p.m., February 4, 2008. Call the Cultural Affairs Division at 626-744-7062 for more information.
