Roland Nahapetian of East Pasadena’s No Excuses Fitness is all about changing his clients’ lifestyles for the sake of “wellness.”
“Think of wellness as a continuum,” he says, “with optimal health and wellness at one end and disease at the other end. Now think of where you currently are on this continuum. Are you currently at your ideal weight? Are you energetic, free of aches and pains and able to handle stress well? Now think of where you would like to be!”
Nahapetian’s No Excuses is a private workout facility on Foothill Boulevard that encourages people of all ages, regardless of their fitness level, to make a lifestyle change for the better through better exercise and diet.
One of his success stories is an 80-year-old Pasadena woman he met – at all places – at a funeral.
"I never ever in my wildest dreams imagined this woman working out. She was at point in her life where just moving was difficult. She seemed ready to give up. She was falling all the time, her hands would shake, her legs would shake. She was atrophying.,” Nahapetian remembers.
“Then she came to the gym and started slowly, very slowly, doing exercises. We went from that to dancing!" he laughs.
One of Nahapetian’s ardent supporters is 8-year gym member Sarah Miller (her husband Eric also works out at No Excuses).
“Roland is a real encourager,” Miller says enthusiatically. “You get more one-on-one, old fashioned kind of service here than at some slick place. They maybe spent a million dollars on the interior, but do you get the one-on-one?”
“Another thing I like about Roland is he doesn't have that "beat you down" mentality,” Miller continues. “He offers a boot camp workout, but it's not loud and screamy... You have fun! You come in and have a good time!”
The No Excuses version of boot camp is an indoor sixty-minute intense workout that focuses on cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, functional training, and flexibility improvements. There are no “irritating drill sergeants” and a fun atmosphere.
“There are moments of rest but limited stoppage of hard work,” Nahapetian sars. “Just when you think you have reached the top we take you a bit further. Here we understand your body, your needs, and your physical output; we know when to slow you down and when to turn up the heat so you can reach your full potential with each and every boot camp.”
Nahapetian’s private and semi private workout sessions are designed to provide you with the most advanced training techniques; this will ensure you a solid foundation for strength, athletic competition, better health and an improved overall physique.
The fitness center has also developed a five phase progression training program that is tailored for the athlete. This program offers athletes specialized strength, agility and cardiovascular training.
