The Fair Political Practices Commission has closed its file involving a complaint alleging Pasadena City Councilmember Steve Haderlein violated provisions of the California Political Reform Act prohibiting sending mass mailings at public expense.
“After review of the complaint, we note that you have re-paid the city for the cost of the mailing,” the Commission said in a letter dated Aug. 22, “and consequently we have decided to close this matter without commencing further investigation.”
The letter states it has enclosed the applicable code section and regulation “to help you avoid potentially serious problems in the future.”
Haderlein told Pasadena Now yesterday the whole thing was “much ado about nothing.”
But he still faces potential criminal charges by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office if it finds there were willful violations of the code. A spokesperson for the District Attorney’s Office told Pasadena Now they have received the complaint and have opened an inquiry.
