After some give-and-take between Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich’s office and the Los Angeles Department of Public Works yesterday, the latter announced that some work on that portion of Altadena Drive in Altadena that connects to Christmas Tree Lane will continue during certain hours until December 14.
Work on medians, gutters, curbs and sidewalks already underway at the corner of Altadena Drive and Lake Avenue will continue until completed on December 7, public works spokesperson Gary Boze told Pasadena Now yesterday.
Similar work will then be done at the corner of Altadena Drive and Santa Rosa Avenue, aka Christmas Tree Lane, during weekdays before 5 p.m. until completed on December 14. All lanes will be open each day after 5 p.m. during the work.
Resurfacing of the roadway, which was scheduled to begin after the work at the intersections is completed, will be delayed until after new the year, Boze said.
On Wednesday Antonovich spokesperson Tony Bell said that all work would be delayed. But yesterday morning Boze issued a press release saying work would continue during limited hours.
The release did not distinguish between work on the medians, gutters, curbs and sidewalks and work resurfacing the roadway.
Bell told Pasadena Now that such mitigation efforts were “not good enough” and that they wanted the work to be delayed until after the new year.
By the end of the day the two offices agreed that the resurfacing would be delayed but the other work would continue as described above until Dec. 14. Boze said it would be very costly to have the contractor, who has already started the project, delay everything until after the new year.
The trees along Christmas Tree Lane are scheduled to be lit at a special ceremony on Dec. 8.
