High (Rise) Art
By KRISTIN EDWARDS Jan 17, 2008 | 3:48 pm Los Angeles-based Champion Development’s new collection of 55 lofts and condos known as The Dalton, hope to take urban living in Pasadena to a whole new level. The grandiose plans include two-story penthouses with expansive patios of up to 1,200 square feet, each with an outdoor fireplace.
Designed for homebuyers who seek a luxury urban environment without the responsibilities of caring for a single-family residence, The Dalton is a 4-story, mixed-use project with 7,500 square feet of first floor retail. Located on the corner of Arroyo and Cordova, The Dalton’s lofts and condos range from 654 square feet to 2,059 square feet. To further enhance the visual appeal of the new community, Champion Development commissioned Los Angeles-based artist Bob Zoell to create a custom art piece spanning 1,000 square feet on the building, making The Dalton the first to incorporate such a large-scale public art project into the design of a Pasadena building, according to Lindsey Baker, of Monday Group. The artwork will be located primarily on the Arroyo Parkway elevation with a secondary location on Cordova. Zoell has selected three large planes on the building’s facade on which to site the murals. “We want to make a significant contribution to the community by setting a new standard for residential urban living in downtown Pasadena,” said Bob Champion, CEO of Champion Development. “Enhancing our projects by infusing public art and trend setting design to create ‘neighborhood landmarks’, offers homebuyers an environment they can truly call home.” This development is one of several new projects in the Arroyo Pkwy area that are hoping to take advantage of the growing commercial access and the closeness to the Gold Line.
