Sunday, December 3 On November 18, the Pasadena Symphony under the baton of Jorge Mester, in their second concert of the season titled “Youth Shall Be Heard,” performed works by Britten, Mendelsohn and Schubert. The evening began with a very moving and hypnotizing rendition of Benjamin Britten’s Variations on a Theme by Frank Bridge, op. 10, a work for string orchestra, written in the space of about four weeks in 1937 when Britten was only 24 years old.
