Celebrating the Arts, Culture and People
of Pasadena, San Marino, South Pasadena,
Altadena & La Cañada Flintridge

The event was held on Saturday, June 25 to raise money for the Levitt Pavilion’s 50 free concert series. The Gala was a success and exceeded the organization’s fundraising goals. Guests gathered in front of the Levitt Pavilion band shell within Memorial Park and were treated to Western steak dinners fresh off the grill, wine poured by Heritage Wine, and entertainment provided by country artist Paul Godfrey.

The event featured Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard as the honorary Sheriff who came with his wife Claire Bogaard, and former newscaster Henry Alfaro as the Master of Ceremonies.

Some other guests at the event were Elizabeth Levitt Hirsch, Barbosa Polverini, Douglas Huberman, Mark Hancock, Gene and Marilyn Buchanan, Jonathan Glus, Molly Munger and  Cynthia Kurtz.

In addition to all the festivities, there were both live and silent auctions with items that were generously donated to the fundraiser by the community. Some featured items were a Gucci diamond necklace, a week vacation in a beautiful Mammoth home, a dinner for 10 at Elizabeth Hirsch’s private home in Beverly Hills with singer Susan Kay Wyatt entertaining for the evening, and two stunning pieces of arts by August Highland, one which was purchased by Dr. Beth Julian Wang, a Pasadena doctor of obstetrics and gynecology. There were over 90 other items donated that were sold in the silent auction which ran throughout the evening.

The event was organized by board member Glenda Gillison and executive director CJ Whitcomb. The event raised over $30,000 to support the production of 50 free quality concerts for the community. This amount represents one fifth of the matched amount needed to sustain the concert series. The Friends of the Levitt Pavilion wish to thank all the generous donors who contributed to the Gala’s success.

The summer concerts begin on June 29 2005 and are held every Wednesday through Sunday evening until September 4. The first concert features Grammy® Award-winning artist Maria Del Rey at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 29. In addition to feature performers, a new youth performance program, Levitt Loves Kids, kicks off Wednesday at 6:30 pm. These youth performances will be held every Wednesday and Sunday evening at 6:30. One of the young performers will be six year old musical prodigy Marc Yu performing on July 3 and August 11.
